Understanding MitiMara's Dual-Point System: Ecosystem & Policing Points
At MitiMara, we've designed a unique dual-point system that rewards different types of positive contributions to our tree-planting platform. This blog post explains how our ecosystem points and policing points work, how you earn them, and how they translate into real value through Pi token exchanges.
Ecosystem Points: Fueling Tree Planting and Verification
What Are Ecosystem Points?
Ecosystem points are at the core of our reward system, designed to make tree planting impactful and engaging. These points drive the primary activities on our platform: planting Trees and verifying others' plantings.
How to Earn and Use Ecosystem Points
Our ecosystem points system is designed to be simple yet effective:
- Starting Balance: You receive 10 ecosystem points when you sign up.
- Planting Trees: It costs 5 points to plant a tree.
- Verifying Trees: It costs 3 points to verify a tree planted by another user.
- Successful Authentication: When your planted tree or verification is authenticated, you get double your points back! This creates a net gain for honest participants.
- Purchasing Points: Need extra points? You can subscribe to purchase more at a rate of 1 Pi token = 100 ecosystem points.
The Value of Ecosystem Points
What makes ecosystem points truly valuable is their exchangeability for Pi tokens. We use a gamified formula to ensure fair distribution:
Your Pi Reward = (Your Points / Total Users' Points) * Amount of Pi Tokens in the Planter/Verifier Pot
This proportional system ensures that the most active and honest participants receive the largest share of rewards, creating a positive incentive loop that benefits the entire community.
Policing Points: Maintaining Platform Integrity
What Are Policing Points?
While ecosystem points drive planting and verification, policing points serve a different but equally important purpose: maintaining the integrity of our platform through community oversight.
How to Earn and Use Policing Points
Policing points work differently from ecosystem points:
- Starting Balance: Every user starts with 1 policing point.
- Using Points: Submitting a tree report costs 1 policing point.
- Earning Points: When admins agree with your report (e.g., a fake tree you reported is confirmed fake, or your contest of a "fake" marking is validated), you earn 2 policing points.
- Net Gain/Loss: This creates a net gain (+1) for accurate reports and a net loss (-1) for inaccurate ones.
The Value of Policing Points
Just like ecosystem points, policing points can be exchanged for Pi tokens using a similar gamified formula:
Your Pi Reward = (Your Policing Points / Total Users' Policing Points) * Amount of Pi Tokens in the Policing Pot
This system rewards users who actively participate in maintaining platform integrity, creating a financial incentive to help police the ecosystem.
How The Dual-Point System Creates a Balanced Ecosystem
Our dual-point system creates a balanced ecosystem in several ways:
- Specialization: Users can focus on planting, verifying, policing, or all three based on their preferences and skills.
- Multiple Reward Paths: Different ways to contribute mean different ways to earn.
- Self-Regulation: The community has financial incentives to maintain its own integrity.
- Balanced Incentives: The system discourages both false tree claims and false reporting.
Example Scenarios
Scenario 1: The Tree Planter
Maria focuses primarily on planting trees. She plants 10 trees (using 50 ecosystem points) and 8 are verified as authentic. She receives double points back for these 8 trees (80 points), creating a net gain of 30 points. When exchange time comes, her proportion of ecosystem points determines her Pi token reward from the Planter/Verifier Pot.
Scenario 2: The Community Police Officer
John specializes in identifying problematic tree submissions. He successfully reports 5 falsely verified trees (using 5 policing points) and the admin agrees with all his reports. He earns 10 policing points back, for a net gain of 5 points. His proportion of policing points determines his reward from the Policing Pot.
The Bigger Picture: MitiMara's Economic Model
The dual-point system is part of MitiMara's broader economic model designed to create a sustainable, transparent, and rewarding platform for environmental action.

Conclusion: Points with Purpose
Both ecosystem and policing points serve critical functions in the MitiMara platform:
- Ecosystem points drive the core activities of planting and verifying trees
- Policing points ensure those activities are conducted with integrity
Together, they create a system where active and honest participation is rewarded, transparency is maintained, and collaborative environmental action is incentivized.
By participating in both systems, you're not just earning potential rewards—you're contributing to a transparent, trustworthy platform that's making a real difference for our planet, one tree at a time.
